Variations on Wild about Flowers for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop – Stampin’ Up!

NEW Blog Hop Header
My card share for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop today shows two different variations of the card I shared with you last week featuring the Wild about Flowers stamp set from Stampin’ Up!  If you missed that post, you can see it here.  I thought it would be fun to show you how you can change the look of a card by simply using a different piece of designer series paper.

This week’s color challenge is Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey, and Old Olive.

02112016 color challenge

I used the Farmers Market DSP for each of my cards, but by changing the stamping a little, and switching up the colors of the layered panel, you get several pretty looks.

Card Recipe and Tips:

Card Base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scored and folded at 4-1/4″

Layers: Very Vanilla 4″ x 5-1/4″ (two, front of card and inside panel), Farmers Market DSP 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″, Blackberry Bliss/Old Olive 2-5/8″ x 4-1/4″, Hello Honey/Blackberry Bliss 2-3/8″ x 4″

Art Piece: Very Vanilla 2-1/4″ x 3-7/8″

  • Stamp the images on Very Vanilla card stock.  Vary the height of the flowers to add visual interest.
  • Stamp just a few flowers, or layer them to look like a field of wild flowers.
  • Layer the panels for the art piece and then tie with ribbon.  I run adhesive across the back of the panel to help hold the ribbon in place.  Putting a mini-glue dot behind where you want the knot to be helps to tie neatly.
  • I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to raise up the art piece and give the card more depth.
  • Don’t forget to finish the inside of your card for an extra special touch.

Giggle Greetings… Sometimes Life is the Pits! – Stampin’ Up!

Lately life has handed me more than my fair share of bad news, so it seemed like the perfect time to have a laugh.  Giggle Greetings is the perfect stamp set to put a little bit of joy into life when life is the pits!

Giggle Greetings (5 of 6)

I don’t mean to sound negative.  My life is full of wonderful blessings too (my new job, a loving family, and most importantly my precious son).  This card is my way of focusing on the positive and bringing some humor to the situation.  I created two different versions of this card because I just couldn’t make my mind up on the design.  Which is your favorite?

Giggle Greetings (3 of 6)

For the green and yellow version, I wanted to add a bow, but I didn’t have any Cherry Cobbler ribbon.  So, I used my Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker to die a scrap of white satin ribbon.  It was super easy and did the trick perfectly!

Giggle Greetings (7 of 6)

I stamped the cherry bowl image on the inside of the card in Memento black ink.  I used a post it note to mask the greeting above and below the image.  I liked the simple sketched appearance of the stamped image, so I decided not to color it in on the inside of the card.

Giggle Greetings (8 of 6)

I like how these cards turned out.  I had fun coloring them with my Stampin’ Blendabilities markers, and as always, creating something fun took my mind off of other things.  I just love Stamping!

World of Dreams Blank Card – Stampin’ Up!

Before I get to today’s project, let me remind you that your opportunity to get $150 worth of product for only $99 begins today!  See all the details at the bottom of the post.  Now, onto today’s project, which is a clean and simple card featuring the World of Dreams stamp from Stampin’ Up!  This card was quick and simple to create.  It is blank inside, making it perfect for any occasion.

World of Dreams (3 of 4)

I started with a Crumb Cake card base, which I stamped using the leaf stamp from World of Dreams.  I used crumb cake ink, and stamped off before stamping onto the card base.  This gave my card interest, while also allowing the pattern to fade into the background.

World of Dreams (5 of 4)

Next, I stamped the “wheat” image (I’m not exactly sure what that plant is, but it is gorgeous!) onto a panel of Very Vanilla card stock using Early Espresso ink.  I stamped the image three times without re-inking to create depth.  Then I layered my panel onto a panel of Early Espresso card stock using SNAIL adhesive.  I tied a bow (Early Espresso) around my layered panels and added them to the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I just love the feel of the new 1/4″ cotton ribbon.  It is really soft and easy to work with.

World of Dreams (6 of 4)

For the inside of the card, I repeated my stamped image from the front.  I like how simple yet elegant this card is.  I think I will send it to my uncle who has recently been diagnosed with Cancer.  The neutral colors make it seem peaceful and well suited for a man.

Please pin this project to Pinterest if you are a fan of this card.  You will find a “pin it” button at the bottom of this post below the supply list and card stock cuts.  Also, please subscribe to my blog via email by clicking on the “follow” button if you enjoy reading my posts.

Sweet Stripes from Paper Pumpkin – Stampin’ Up!

Last week, while I was home caring for my sick little guy, a surprise arrived in the mail… My Paper Pumpkin!  It is always fun to see what’s in the box.  And, it was nice to have a simple project that I could work on while he was napping!

August 2014 Paper Pumpkin (3 of 5)

I have to say I love this month’s kit.  It came with enough supplies to create four large cards and four small cards plus some super cute envelopes to match.  There were also extra die cut sheets and banners that I can use for another project (also nice in case you make a mistake).

August 2014 Paper Pumpkin (4 of 5)

The kit includes everything you need… card bases, banners, stamps, ink, adhesive, envelopes, embellishments.  The only thing I had to provide was a pair of scissors. Another nice thing about this kit is that it covered many different occasions: friendship, congratulations, birthday, and thank you!  🙂

August 2014 Paper Pumpkin (5 of 5)

The kit includes a cute little circle stamp perfect for making the small polka dots on the white die cut panel.  However, after stamping small polka dots on three of the cards, I decided to pull out my Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and play with it instead.  I love the effect, and I have to admit it went much faster than the individual polka-dots.

August 2014 Paper Pumpkin (6 of 5)

Check out the cute envelopes that came with this month’s Paper Pumpkin kit.  The large cards came with pink and yellow solid envelopes, but the smaller cards had cute polka-dots and stars on them!  The small cards are just the perfect size to put on top of a gift too!  For the smaller cards, I used the And Many More stamp set to change up the greetings.

Hip Hip Hooray for Quick and Simple Solutions! – Stampin’ Up!

I’ll tell you what, the last few weeks have been rough!  After my difficult week last week, this week I have been sick all week!  I’m so grateful that Stampin’ Up! has provided us with quick and simple solutions for when life gets a little crazy!  Today’s project is a set of cards created with the Hip Hip Hooray Card Kit from Stampin’ Up!

Hip Hip Hooray Card Kit (3 of 5)

My mom and I created these cards together a couple of weeks ago while we were on vacation at the beach. I knew I couldn’t bring a lot of supplies with me, but I couldn’t imaging a week without some form of creative play, so I threw the Hip Hip Hooray card kit and some paper snips into my suitcase.

Hip Hip Hooray Card Kit (4 of 5)

Hip Hip Hooray Card Kit (5 of 5)

Mom and I had a fun time playing together and we were able to whip out ten cards in no time flat!  What is even better, is the card kit comes with enough supplies for 20 cards, so I still have plenty more materials left in my kit for next time I need a quick solution!

A Little Kindness with Kinda Eclectic – Stampin’ Up!

Okay, I know I said I was probably not going to post this week since we are so busy with preparations for my sister’s wedding, but what can I say… I got a burst of energy and decided to get to typing!  Today’s project is a cute card created with the Kinda Eclectic stamp set from Stampin’ Up!  This set is one that was at the top of my “must have” list for the new catalog.  I just love it!

Kinda Eclectic (5 of 6)

I’ve been playing around with layering and different uses for my Designer Series Paper this week.  I just love the Typeset DSP that I used for the torn banners on this card.

Kinda Eclectic (2 of 6)

I am also enjoying combining multiple images to create dynamic backgrounds.  This is a little different than my usual style, but I like it!

Kinda Eclectic (3 of 6)

For a finishing touch on the inside of my card, I stamped the polka dot border image and some butterflies on a panel of Very Vanilla card stock.  I love how the polka dots have words inside them.  It gives the stamp added texture and interest and also made it a great partner for the Typeset DSP.

Kinda Eclectic (4 of 6)

This project would make a great thank you card or a love note for a friend.  I am really pleased with how it turned out.  Please pin it to Pinterest if you are a fan of this card.  You will find a “pin it” button at the bottom of this post below the supply list and card stock cuts.  Also, please subscribe to my blog via email by clicking on the “follow” button if you enjoy reading my posts.

A “Beautiful Bunch” of New Products from Stampin’ Up!

Now that the craft studio is finished, I’m really having a lot of fun delving into all my new stuff from Stampin’ Up!  Today’s card features several new products from the 2014 Annual Catalog.  I used the new Fun Flower Punch and the Flower Frenzy Die to create the main focal point, but there are lots of other new things included in the details too.

Beautiful Bunch (5 of 8)

I had so much fun playing with the new Back to Black and Flowerpot Designer Series Paper packs for this project.  I love the combination of Lost Lagoon, Basic Black, and Whisper White.  And who said leaves have to be green, right?  For a detailed list of all the card stock cuts and dimensions, scroll to the very bottom of this post.

Beautiful Bunch (6 of 8)

For the center of my large flowers, I used the new Beautiful Bunch stamp set.  I love how the bold black center brings the flowers to life.  Add a little sponging around the edges and a pearl accent in the middle and you are in business!  For the tiny flowers, I used the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.  That little flower is fast becoming one of my favorite punches!  It is such a perfect item for “filling in” a project.

Beautiful Bunch (4 of 8)

Project Life Meets Ray of Sunshine – Stampin’ Up!

Today’s project was actually inspired by a journaling card from Project Life by Stampin’ Up!  I saw the raindrop pattern at the top of the card and immediately thought of the girls with the umbrella from the In This Together stamp set.   From there, inspiration was born!

The Project Life card with the raindrops was a lined card intended for scrapbook journaling.  The lines didn’t suit my purpose, so I combined it with another Project Life card with clouds on it.  I glued the cards together and then cut them to the size I wanted for the front of my card.  Next, I mounted that panel onto a mat in Basic Gray.  Then I added a length of Soft Sky 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon at the seam where the two cards joined.

I stamped my So Saffron card base with the sun and the polka dot border from the Kinda Eclectic stamp set.  I used my stamp-a-ma-jig to assist with perfect placement of the polkadots.  Then I added my “rainy day” panel to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I stamped the girls from the In This Together stamp set on Whisper White card stock with Memento Black Ink and colored them using a combination of Stampin’ Write markers and Stampin’ Blendabilities (available soon, I’ll keep you posted).  I cut the image out with my paper snips and attached it to the card with dimensionals.

Finally, I stamped the polka dot border from Kinda Eclectic in Soft Sky on card stock of the same color.  Then, I stamped the sunshine greeting from the Ray of Sunshine stamp set in Basic Gray.  I just love the sentiments in that set!  I thought this one went perfectly with my rainy day theme!  I cut my sentiment out using Banner Framelits dies (the third from the center) and sponged around the edges in Basic Gray ink.

For the inside of the card, I mirrored the stamping that I did on my card base.  I love that polka dot border!  I think the Kinda Eclectic stamp set is going to get a lot of ink time from me.  It also has a gorgeous leaf stamp in it which will be the perfect accompaniment for so many of my floral stamps!

The In this Together stamp set is not my usual style, but I really like working with it.  It has some adorable girly images in it.  I am also enjoying using Project Life items in my cards.  It is sort of a fun challenge to see how I will incorporate them next!

Watercolor Wonder Tri-fold Banner Card – Stampin’ Up!

I absolutely adore the patterns in the Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper pack.  I am bound and determined not to let this gorgeous paper go to waste, so you will probably see lots of it in the next couple of weeks (along with the Retro Fresh DSP).  Remember, there is only a short time left to order your retiring products, so act now!

Watercolor Wonder dozen thoughts (1 of 8)

Although, I’m sad to see this beautiful paper being retired, I’m excited about all the new designs that will be available with the new catalog on June 2nd.  If you haven’t gotten your very own copy of the new catalog yet, now is a great time.  I offer free catalogs to all of my customers.  If you are my customer or want to be my customer, please email me your name and mailing address.  I’ll be more than happy to send you the gorgeous book.  You can email me at handcraftingheather@icloud.com.

Watercolor Wonder dozen thoughts (2 of 8)

I had a great time playing around with all the different patterns from Watercolor Wonder for these cards.  I began with card bases in Island Indigo and Tangelo Twist.  I scored these to create a tri-fold effect.  Then I added panels of Watercolor Wonder DSP to the front flaps.  I used my Banner Framelits Dies to cut three banners from Wild Wasabi and Daffodil Delight card stock for each card.  For these banners, I wanted them to be narrower than the die, so I cut strips of card stock 1-1/4″ wide and then centered the die over my strips.  This allowed me to have a perfect angle on the banner to mat my smaller banner, without the mat being too big.  Next, I cut banners from my DSP using the 2nd die from the center.  I glued my banner layers together with multipurpose liquid adhesive and then added them to the front of the card.  I put two banners on the right flap, and the banner in the center on the left flap.  This creates a cool “interlocking” closure effect, which adds a lot of interest to the card design.

Next, I stamped three flowers from the Petite Petals stamp set in Island Indigo and Tangelo Twist ink.  I used a sponge to ink around the edges of the flower, which really made them pop.  Then I colored a pearl using my Stampin’ Blendabilities markers in Coastal Cabana and Daffodil delight and placed it in the center of each flower.  I popped up the petals of the flowers and added them to the banners using mini glue dots.

Watercolor Wonder dozen thoughts (4 of 8)

For my sentiment, I chose the “Just Because” stamp from A Dozen Thoughts.  I love the curly script of this greeting.  I stamped the greeting in Island Indigo and Tangelo Twist, using my stamp-a-ma-jig for perfect placement.  Then I embellished with some more pearls.

I played around with different combinations of the DSP for my panels to create slightly different versions of my card.  As you can see, the possibilities for this design are endless!

Watercolor Wonder dozen thoughts (5 of 8)

I finished off the inside of my card by adding panels of Watercolor Wonder DSP on the inside.  I inked around the edges of the top layer to give some added contrast with the mat.

Watercolor Wonder dozen thoughts (3 of 8)

I love the cheerful colors of these cards.  I also like the contrast between the soft florals and the geometric design of the banners.  I am looking forward to sending these out when those “just because” moments arise in life.  I hope you have enjoyed today’s project as well.  As always, if you find inspiration from my work, please pin this project to Pinterest and leave me a comment.  You will find a “pin it” button at the very bottom of this post below the supply list and cards stock cuts.  Also, if you like my work, why not subscribe to my blog via email.  All you have to do is click on “follow” in the sidebar.
