Happy Fourth of July with Paper Pumpkin – Stampin’ Up!

Happy Fourth of July everyone!  I finally got around to breaking out my June Paper Pumpkin kit.  It was just perfect to celebrate Independence Day!  I created a few different projects with the kit: a wreath, a card, and some pinwheels in a wall vase.  This was my first month of My Paper Pumpkin.  It was really easy to put together with simple instructions, and kind of fun to get a surprise craft in the mail.  To subscribe to My Paper Pumpkin click here.

June Paper Pumpkin (2 of 14)

This whimsical wreath was created by gluing several pinwheels from the kit onto a styrofoam wreath form.  Then I embellished by pushing tulle into the styrofoam with a skewer to fill in the gaps.  I took inspiration from my friend Amy Koenders, and flattened some of the straws that came with the kit and then wrapped them around a pencil to create some curly cue embellishments.

Although the wreath was fun to create, the pinwheels also were really cute all by themselves.  I have a wall vase that one of my students gave me, and I put a few of the pinwheels in there.  It was a great festive decoration, with very little effort.

Finally, I used some of the leftover pinwheels and punched a few banners with the banner punch.  I used those to create a 4th of July inspired card.  I chose to use the Everything Eleanor stamp set because I thought it gave a suggestion of fireworks.

I hope you have a wonderful 4th of July!  Enjoy spending time with friends and family and try to squeeze in a little creative time for yourself.

Bridal Shower “Celebrate” Banner – Stampin’ Up!

My sister’s bridal shower is next week!  I can hardly believe it.  I have been having so much fun pulling all the details together… like this gorgeous banner that I made for the mantle of the fireplace.

Bridal Banner (4 of 11)

This banner was made using Stampin’ Up! punches and paper, as well as my Brother Scan N’ Cut e-cutter (one of my new toys).  I used the e-cutter to cut out the letters, wedding cake, and diamond ring die cuts.   Bridal Banner (7 of 11)

Check this out… the words “the bride” in the photo above were handwritten on a piece of white paper using a sharpie marker.  Then I scanned the file and converted it to a cut file, which I cut out of silver foil from Stampin’ Up!  Isn’t that amazing!

Bridal Banner (6 of 11)

I love how the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer PaperSilver Foil,  and Silver Satin Ribbon all came together to create such an elegant banner.  The flowers from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack were the perfect addition for embellishing the banner.

I hope my sister and her friends enjoy the festivities of the bridal shower.  I think this banner and the other details I have created are going to create the perfect environment to honor my sister on her special night.  If you are a fan of this project and want to pin it to Pinterest, you will find a “pin it” button at the bottom of this post below the supply list and card stock cuts.  Also, please subscribe to my blog via email by clicking on the “follow” button if you are a fan of my work.

Choose Happiness Notepads – Stampin’ Up!

Today’s project is one that brings a smile to my face.  I just love these adorable notepads featuring the Choose Happiness and Everything Eleanor stamp sets from Stampin’ Up!  I have a secret obsession with stationery and notepads of all kinds… no wonder I made my way into the art of making cards, lol!  I love having cute little notepads all over the place to jot down a quick note, or make a list.  (For those of you who saw my craft room post, you might have noticed that I’m also obsessed with organization, so lists make me happy too.)

Choose Happiness Pads (6 of 6)

These adorable notepads are so easy to make, and can be altered for any color scheme or stamped design.  They would make great gifts too!  I purchased some small notepads from Staples and Amazon.com for this project today, but you could really make them in any size.  I prefer to use “Gum-Top” notepads, which means they are glued along the top edge, rather than having cardboard wrapped around the top and secured with staples.  However, either type of pad can be used for this project.

Choose Happiness Pads (2 of 6)

The process I use for making these pads is the same, regardless of the dimensions.  For this post, I am going to tell you how to measure your notepad to make a cover with a perfect fit, rather than focusing on the dimensions of this specific project.

Begin by measuring the height and width of the front of your notepad.  I like to add 1/8″ to the height, so that the cover extends beyond the bottom of the pad by just a little bit when it is closed.  This makes it easier to open the pad.  Next, measure the depth of the notepad and add that measurement to the height.  Finally, add 1-1/2″ to those two measurements to account for the part that will wrap around the back.  Cut a rectangle out of card stock that is equal to:

width measurement x (height + depth + 1-1/2″)

For example, if your notepad measures 3″ x 5″ and is 1/4″ deep then you would cut your card stock to 3″ x 6-3/4″ then you would score it at 1-1/2″ and 1-3/4″.  Of course, where you score your card will depend on the dimensions of your notepad.  The first score mark will always be 1-1/2″, but the second score mark will depend on the depth of your notepad.  To determine the second score mark, add 1-1/2″ to the depth of the notepad.

Once you have scored your card stock, wrap it around the front of the notepad and secure it on the back of the notepad with a strong adhesive, such as sticky strip, Fuse Adhesive, or Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  Be sure that you don’t glue along the top edge of the notepad, just on the back.

Choose Happiness Pads (4 of 6)

Once the cover is in place, you can really decorate it any way you want.  For this set, I created notepads in Blackberry Bliss, Crisp Cantaloupe, and Cherry Cobbler.  I used coordinating DSP from the Background Designer Series Paper stacks and added a beautiful art piece featuring several stamp sets from Stampin’ Up! I began by stamping the Dictionary background stamp in Baked Brown sugar on a panel of Very Vanilla card stock.  Next, I stamped the flourish image from Everything Eleanor in the same shade, and I added some ink splotches from Gorgeous Grunge too.  Then I used Mossy Meadow ink, and the leaf image from Kinda Eclectic to add some foliage.  Next, I sponged the background with Baked Brown Sugar ink.  Finally, I added some Venetian Crochet Trim and Linen Thread to the panel.

Choose Happiness Pads (1 of 6)

I stamped the flower image from Choose Happiness in the same color card stock as I used for the cover of each notepad.  For the Blackberry Bliss and Cherry Cobbler pads, I used the coordinating ink color and sponged around the edges with it too.  For the Crisp Cataloupe pads, I wanted a little more contrast for the flower, so I used Calypso Coral ink.  Finally, I added the flower to the background with Stampin’ Dimensionals and mounted the entire piece on a Baked Brown Sugar mat.

Choose Happiness Pads (3 of 6)

For one of the pads, I stamped the “Choose Happiness” sentiment in Early Espresso ink to finish it off.  For the others, I colored three large pearls with my Bronze Stampin’ Blendabilities Marker (from the Skintone set).  Then I added them to the top right corner of the art piece for a finishing touch.

Choose Happiness Pads (6 of 6)

These notepads are the perfect size to slip into your purse or keep on the corner of a desk.  I just adore them!  If you love them too, today is your lucky day.  Leave me a comment about this post, and I will draw one lucky winner to receive one in the mail!  I will announce the winner in my post on Tuesday, July 1st.  (Which also happens to be the day that several Blendabilties Marker sets will be available to the public!  Are you getting excited yet?)

I know you are going to want to save this idea for later, so you should definitely pin it to Pinterest.  You can find a “pin it” button at the very bottom of this post.  To subscribe to my blog via email, just click on the “follow” button in the sidebar near the top.

Bridal Shower Wine Charms – Stampin’ Up!

I’m back today with another project for my sister’s bridal shower.  As young adults, whenever we would have dinner parties at my mom’s house, my sister would run to the printer and print out the guests’ names on strips of paper and tape them around the stem of all the wine glasses.  This was of course before there were a gazillion cute wine charms on the market (yes, that is an official number… I’m a math teacher, I should know).  Anyway, when I started planning this shower, I knew I would have to create some cute wine charms just for her special occasion.  Mine are a bit fancier than paper taped to the bottom of the glass though. 🙂

Girls' Night OUt (8 of 10)

I had some scraps of paper from my local craft store leftover from another project, which I used to make these wine charms.  However, as I describe the project, I will tell you the Stampin’ Up! products that would make perfect substitutions. (I’ve also listed those in the supply list at the bottom of the post.)

For this project, I purchased some 1/2″ Loose Leaf Rings from Amazon.com.  They are the perfect size for wine charms, and they open and close so you can easily put them on and switch out the charm for your next occasion.

Girls' Night OUt (6 of 10)

For each charm I punched one Scallop Oval Punch from Silver Glimmer Paper, and one Modern Label Punch from Silver Foil.  I printed the names of all the guests on a sheet of Whisper White card stock and punched them out using the Word Window Punch.  (For those who are interested, the font I used is called Centeria Script Demo.)  I layered the three punches together with Stampin’ Dimensionals and punched a hole in one end using the 1/4″ Circle Handheld Punch.

Girls' Night OUt (10 of 10)

Finally, I punched a flower from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper using the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.  I added a rhinestone to the center and added it to the end of my charm with a glue dot.  Didn’t this project just turn out to be adorable?  I know my sister will love this extra detail at her party.  These were really easy to do and the colors could be changed to match any occasion.  So next time you are entertaining and want to “WOW” your guests with all the extra little details you put into the event, this project is for you.

I love Pinterest, don’t you?  You should pin this project so you can remember it next time you are planning a party.  You will find a “pin it” button at the bottom of this post below the supply list and card stock cuts.  Also, please subscribe to my blog via email by clicking on the “follow” button if you are a fan of my work.

My New Crafting Studio… The BIG Reveal! – Stampin’ Up!

Hello Everyone!  I am SO EXCITED about my post today!  It is finally finished! My craft studio remodel is complete and I’m ready for the big reveal!  I have never before had a dedicated space for my crafting, so I can’t even begin to tell you how psyched I am about this space!

The room started out as a guest bedroom that rarely saw any action.  Here it is after the furniture was taken out.

Craft Room Remodel (1 of 17)

As you can see, it wasn’t anything to write home about, but now look at it in all its wonderful crafting glory!

Look at all that storage and beautiful organization!

Look at all that storage and beautiful organization!

I’ve filmed a little virtual tour of the space for you.  I hope you enjoy it!

I would also like to give a big shout out to Brett Haugen at Stamp-n-Storage.  I love, love, love all the fabulous storage units they have designed specifically for all the products from Stampin’ Up!

Stamp-n-Storage Combo Ink Pad Holder houses all of my ink pads, ink refills, and Stampin' Write Markers.

In addition to all the fantastic products I got from Stamp-n-Storage, I would also like to point out a few other details about the room for you.  I often find myself standing as I work on projects.  Typically, this makes my back hurt because I am stooped over my dining room table as I work.  My solution to this problem was to create two different heights for my work surfaces.  One section of my desk is taller for when I need to stand to do a project, and the other section is the perfect height for sitting.

A tall work surface for standing and a lower one for sitting.

As I designed this space, I really wanted to maximize all the storage potential.  Check out how I have even used the space between the two desks to store my larger rotary trimmer!

And here is one last gem for you… I have found the perfect solution to eliminate all those wires cluttering up the space below the desk!

I am in love with my new crafting studio.  So much so, that I find myself lingering in the doorway at night before I go to bed, just to gaze at its glory a little longer!  I can hardly tear myself away, lol!  This room will get so much more use now than it did as a guest room, that’s for sure.

“Create” with Sweet Taffy Designer Series Paper – Stampin’ Up!

Happy Father’s Day everyone!  I made my Father’s Day card ages ago so today’s project is something a bit different.  If you would like to see the card my dad will be receiving you can click here. (I think that one may be one of my all time favorites).

Meanwhile… I’m so excited to share a home decor project that I created using the Sweet Taffy Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up! and some fabulous punches.  As many of you know, I have been in the throws of converting the guest room in my house into a crafting studio.  Today’s project is the first creation made in my new space.  I love, love, love having a dedicated place for all my crafting.

Sweet Taffy Create Sign (9 of 15)

I purchased some wooden letters and a small board made of Balsa wood from my local craft store. The letters were pre-painted black, and I painted the wood board to match.  The board was a bit longer than I needed, but the Balsa wood is so soft that I was able to cut it with a straight edge and craft knife.

Sweet Taffy Create Sign (8 of 15)

Next, I cut panels of Sweet Taffy DSP and traced the letters using a pencil.  In order to avoid having trace lines on the front of my project, I traced on the back of the paper, being sure to flip over my letters so they were backwards as I traced.  After cutting out my letters, I adhered them to the wooden letters using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  Then I used E-6000 Quick Hold adhesive to glue the letters to the board.

Sweet Taffy Create Sign (6 of 15)

Once my letters were mounted and the glue had dried, it was time for some embellishments.  I used my Bitty ButterflyElegant ButterflyPetite Petals, and Itty Bitty Accents Punches to decorate my project.  I punched out several shapes using the Sweet Taffy DSP and coordinating card stock in Melon Mambo, Tempting Turquoise, and Daffodil Delight.  Then I sponged around the edges of everything, added some rhinestones, and began decorating my project.

Sweet Taffy Create Sign (3 of 15)

I wanted the butterflies to fly off of my sign to add a bit of whimsy, so I added them to a length of sterling silver wire that I use for jewelry design.  I attached the wire to the back of my sign using a hot glue gun.  Doesn’t it just add the perfect touch!

Here are some close up shots of each letter.  You might notice that I used a cute little leaf with my flowers.  Want to know my secret?  I punched a few flowers from Old Olive card stock using the Petite Petals Punch, then I cut the petals apart, creating five perfect little leaves from each punch.

Chalk Talk “Something Special” Gift Tag – Stampin’ Up!

Last Friday was my son Carter’s last day at his current daycare.  I’m truly excited about him going to a new school, but we will miss his caregiver, Astride, dearly!  He has been with her since he was 4 months old, and she feels like a part of our family.  I felt it appropriate to give her a nice thank you gift as a going away present.  Of course, no gift would be complete without an adorable Stampin’ Up! gift tag.

Chalk Talk Gift Tag (3 of 13)

Today’s project features the Chalk Talk stamp set from Stampin’ Up!  It turned out super cute, and it was really QUICK and easy to make.

Chalk Talk Gift Tag (13 of 13)I started by stamping the “A Little Something Special for a Very Special Somone” tag on Whisper White in Coastal Cabana ink to match the stripes of the bag I got from thirty-one (if you’ve never checked out their site, they have the most adorable bags!).  Then I used my framelits die to cut out my tag and mounted it on a panel of Strawberry Slush card stock, which I trimmed to fit my tag.

Next, I cut 1/4″ strips of DSP from the 2013-2015 In Color Backgrounds Designer Series Paper Stack in Coastal Cabana and Strawberry Slush.  I used my bone folder to curl the paper to make it look like ribbon.  Then I fastened it to my tag with a brad.  I punched a hole in the tag and added some Strawberry Slush stretch ruffle trim (retired product).  I tied that in a knot and added a second piece to tie around the handle of the thirty-one bag.

Chalk Talk Gift Tag (6 of 13)

This project only took a few minutes to complete, but I love the way it turned out.  Astride loved receiving her gift.  In fact, she cried when I gave it to her.  I think that was mostly because she was saying goodbye to my precious little boy, but the gift tag could have had something to do with it too. LOL.  I would appreciate it if you would pin this project to Pinterest if you like it as much as I do.  You will find a “pin it” button at the very bottom of this post below the supply list and cards stock cuts.  Also, if you like my work, why not subscribe to my blog via email.  All you have to do is click on “follow” in the sidebar.

Coloring with the New Blendabilities Markers…. They’ll Be Here Soon from Stampin’ Up!

I’ve really been enjoying learning how to use alcohol markers as I play with my new Stampin’ Blendabilities.  These markers are a new line of product that will be introduced with the 2014 annual catalog on June 2nd. Unfortunately, there has been a delay for their initial release, so they will not be available for purchase right away, but I’m so excited about them that I wanted to show some of the wonderful effects you can achieve with these fantastic markers.  I will keep you updated about exactly when they will be available.  In the meantime, I’ve created a video tutorial for you that compares two different coloring techniques for alcohol based markers.

Blendabilties Techniques (3 of 6)

There isn’t a right or wrong way to use these markers.  Some people recommend coloring your lightest shade first and then moving to the darkest, others recommend going dark to light.  It is really a matter of personal preference.  As I explored with these markers this week, I tried both techniques out with each color set.  Here you can see the results.

Blendabilties Techniques (1 of 6)I have found that the darker the color, the more difference you can see between the two techniques.  I prefer coloring the darkest shade first because I think I am able to get greater contrast in my colors using that method.  Let me show you what I mean.

Blendabilties Techniques (4 of 6)

Blendabilties Techniques (5 of 6)

Blendabilties Techniques (6 of 6)

 What Sets Blendabilities Apart:

  • The Stampin’ Up! rectangular barrel keeps your markers from rolling away!
  • Flat storage helps to maintain the life of each marker.
  • Each marker comes with a tip on each end: brush and fine.
  • Marker tips are made of nylon, which is superior to polyester which can fray.
  • Color coded caps.
  • Stampin’ Up! markers coordinate wonderfully with our cardstock, and can be used with transparent sheets.
  • Blendabilities are alcohol based, which makes them colorfast and allows them to blend with each other beautifully.
  • You can color on anything… rhinestones, buttons, window sheets, etc.
  • Blendabilities marker sets, come in a 3-pack of light, medium and dark shades (of the same color )
  • Blendabilties provide your projects a more saturated look with blended colors

Blended Bloom (1 of 10)

I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial today.  I certainly had fun exploring all the different ways to color with my Blendabilties!  If you like this post, please pin it to Pinterest and leave me a comment.  You will find a “pin it” button at the very bottom of this post.

Work of Art Gift Bag… A Sneak Preview from Stampin’ Up!

On Wednesday, I shared with you the lovely coasters that I made for my mom for mother’s day.  Today, I’m going to show you how I used the fabulous Work of Art stamp set form Stampin’ Up! to create a super cute gift bag to put them in.  This stamp set is one of the brand new sets that will be available with the release of the new annual catalog on June 1st.  I just received my catalogs in the mail yesterday and I will be sending out complimentary copies to my customers!  If you place a $25 order with me during the month of May you will receive a copy of the new catalog in the mail for your reading enjoyment!  Just one more reason to go ahead and order those items from the Spring occasions catalog and the retiring list before they are gone!  Happy shopping! (I will also be launching a new customer loyalty program soon.  Every $25 purchase will earn creativity credits that can be used for free stuff.  More details will follow, but all orders placed during the month of May will qualify.)

Work of Art (2 of 7)-Edit

Isn’t that just adorable?  I know my mom will love it, and it was really quick and easy too!  If you are a fan of this project, I would love to hear your thoughts.  Also, if you find inspiration from my work, why not have my posts delivered to your inbox automatically.  Just click the “follow” button in the sidebar to subscribe.  Please help me get to 200 followers by telling your friends who love crafting about my blog!

Work of Art (7 of 7)-Edit

I started my project by cutting a banner in Whisper White card stock using the second largest Banner Framelits Die.  Then I trimmed the banner to be 2″ wide and punched the top using my Scalloped Tag Topper Punch.   Next, I stamped the “paint stroke” stamps from Work of Art in Coastal Cabana, Strawberry Slush, and Crisp Cantaloupe ink.  Then I stamped my sentiment on top using Stazon Black ink.

Work of Art (4 of 7)-Edit

For a layered effect, I cut strips of Designer Series Paper (from the In Color DSP stack) in Coastal Cabana and Crisp Cantaloupe.  I used my hexagon punch to create the banner end at the bottom.  Then I adhered the layers together with Stampin’ Dimensionals and tied a length of Strawberry Slush Stretch Ruffle Trim around them.

Work of Art (3 of 7)-Edit

Next, I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the chevron image across the bottom of a white gift bag in Coastal Cabana ink.  I stamped the circle image in Strawberry Slush above the chevrons to get a polkadot effect.  To add a little dimension, I stamped off for some of the circles and stamped others full strength.

Work of Art (6 of 7)-Edit

I think the packaging of this gift is almost as great as what is inside.  I can’t wait to give them to my mom!  I hope you will give this a try too.  Be sure to pin this project to Pinterest for future inspiration!  If you scroll to the bottom of this post, you will find a complete list of supplies used to make today’s project.  Below the supply list, you will find a “pin it” button.  I would appreciate your help in spreading the word about my work.

If you find inspiration from this blog, one way you can show your support is by selecting me as your personal Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator.  One great thing about being a demonstrator is getting to preview some of the new products before they are available to the general public!  But don’t worry, you will be able to purchase the Work of Art stamp set from Stampin’ Up! in just a few short weeks.  In the meantime, if you need any stamping supplies you can shop now in my online store!  I would love to help you out.  Feel free to drop me an email if you have any questions.  I’m here to help!

Home Decor… Stampin’ Up! Style!

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I decided to show you a really simple, yet fabulous home decor project I created using Stampin’ Up! products.  I wanted elegant, but bold stamps, so I chose the following sets for my project today:  Summer Silhouettes, Fabulous Florets (retiring stamp set), Serene Silhouettes, Blooming with Kindness, and for my background En Francais (retiring stamp).

Stampin' Up! Coasters (1 of 10)

These coasters are so easy to make, and they are the perfect gift!  I made a set for mother’s day, and I also made a set for my son’s daycare provider for teacher appreciation week.  Not only are these coasters beautiful, but they are also extremely affordable (i.e. “dirt cheap”)!  I would love to hear what you think of my project today.  Please leave me a comment.  Also, if you like my work, why not have my posts delivered to your inbox automatically?  Just click on the “follow” button in the sidebar to subscribe now.

Stampin' Up! Coasters (6 of 10)

I used Stazon Black Ink for my project today because it is permanent.  I began by stamping each coaster with the En Francais background stamp.  (This stamp is retiring, but as of the time I am writing this, it is still available in clear mount.)  Then I stamped the four different coaster designs using a combination of stamp sets.  I found that stamps with a lot of solid surface area worked well for this project.  I just love the black silhouettes against the scripted font of the background.

Coaster #1: Serene Silhouettes

Stampin' Up! Coasters (5 of 10)

Coaster #2: Blooming with Kindness & Summer Silhouettes

Stampin' Up! Coasters (2 of 10)

Coaster #3: Fabulous Florets

Stampin' Up! Coasters (4 of 10)

Coaster #4:  Fabulous Florets & Summer Silhouettes

Stampin' Up! Coasters (3 of 10)

Once the coasters were stamped, I put them on a cookie sheet in a cold oven and brought the temperature up to 375 degrees.  Then I baked them for 30 minutes and let them cool in the oven.  Once everything was completely cooled, I used Minwax Paste Finishing Wax to seal in my designs.  Finally, I added felt pads to the corners on the bottom of the coaster to protect the table from scratching.

Stampin' Up! Coasters (10 of 10)

My mom is just finishing up a big renovation at her house and she is sprucing everything up.  I know she is going to love these coasters!  If you love them too, you should pin them to Pinterest!  At the bottom of this post you will find a complete list of supplies used in this project. Just below the supply list is a “pin it” button.
